I was really apprehensive about writing a blog. I mean really apprehensive. My focus over the last 2.5 years has been about creating meaningful content. I don't have time to write a book right now but a blog - sure. Let's do a blog. Thanks for reading. If you're here you probably know me already whether it's personally, through working with me or through my music and live shows. Thanks for being a part of my journey and I'm grateful that you've allowed me to be apart of yours. It has been such a long fucking road laced with impediments to get to this point. To the point where I was interested in doing things for posterity and building a legacy. Sometimes I feel like I wasted a lot of time in getting here. I started my career in 1995/96 playing, singing and performing music. I remember making my first demo in '93 using 2 tape decks at The Lucayan Towers in Freeport Bahamas. It was a song called "Marry Me" or "I'll Marry You" or some juvenile idea of a love song. Hahahaha.
I'm aging and this is the first time in my life that I really started noticing it physically. Your mind gets sharper but your body gets weaker. About the same time I started building my music catalogue again I quit drinking, smoking and everything else... That leaves questions in your minds I'm sure. When I'm comfortable I'll share more. So with everything going on in the world I up and got creative again back in 2019. I wrote a slew of new material some of which will be featured everywhere November 30th on my new album. This blog however isn't really about my music. It's not a promotional tool for me. It's a personal look into myself and my life to date. Coincidentally I'm only 40 right now. I guess that's not old at all. I think my partying days may have added on 5-10 years of ware though! So about me beyond my age and immediate thoughts writing my first blog. I'm a Caribbean-American kid born in PA and raised between GA and The Bahamas. Crazy combo right? I also lived for a fair amount of time in Albany NY as a young kid. Most of my memories are in Decatur and Freeport though.
I stand in awe of how much in just 30-35 years things have changed. I jokingly confess that I may be one of the last guys from the era of selling CDs from the trunk of your car. Hahahaha. Yes that's a real thing. As a matter of fact before digital for some of us aspiring creatives that was the only option. Selling CDs you pressed at home from the trunk was like grafitti artists or subway musicians for recording artists. It was our way of getting involved just a little with exposing our music. Now with the push of a few keys you can be worldwide over night. What a time to be alive and making art. So about 3 weeks ago I was confronted with my mortality. A serious medical issue that could potentially end my soon to be 41 year run. I'm waiting with bated breath for a surgery that is going to leave me financially broke but keep me alive. I've been down before and gotten up although I'll admit that this is like a punch from Mike Tyson. That's all for now. If you like this come back and read a few more thoughts of mine while I share more about my life and experiences. For now this is an untitled limited run blog. I'll try to put out one a week on Fridays 7 am NY time.
